Nancy Coffey
Nancy Coffey has has extensive experience as a reporter and broadcasting news executive, top aide and spokesperson to a U.S. Senator and to a Cabinet Secretary, as a senior vice president at a leading PR firm, and as president of her own communications consulting firm, Media Spotlight, which specializes in media and communications training, media strategy and strategic crisis counsel.
Ms. Coffey has worked with a wide range of clients in many fields including healthcare, financial services, technology, manufacturing, entertainment as well as non-profit associations and government. With experience on both sides of the microphone, she understands what reporters are looking for and the cross-currents spokespeople must navigate. Her strategic approach to issues and crises helps clients communicate credibly, even in the most sensitive and demanding situation. She also provides executive and media training.
Through Ms. Coffey, clients are able to identify messages that capture key concepts and resonate with their target audiences, providing the framework for comprehensive, consistent marketing and communications efforts.
Ms. Coffey has served as Senior Vice President and Director of Ketchum's Communications Training Center in Washington, D.C; Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the Department of Labor; Communications Director and Chief of Staff; and a top aide to U.S. Senator Howard M. Metzenbaum, where she was his spokesperson and media liaison on all national issues.
Ms. Coffey's 13-year broadcast news career included four years in news management at the NBC-owned and operated television station WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. Ms. Coffey was a national radio correspondent for Westinghouse Broadcasting, where she covered Capitol Hill and the White House. Additionally, she was in radio news management in Boston, Pittsburgh and New York City, where, as program manager, she helped propel WINS-AM to the number one, all-news radio station in New York City. Ms. Coffey began her journalism career at the Chicago Daily News.
Ms. Coffey has a M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Illinois.
