The Network

Marya L. Doerfel

Marya L. Doerfel conducts research in organizational communication with expertise in how social networks reveal issues of cooperation and competition inside and among organizations. She has extensive field experience in conducting network analysis assessments in organizational systems in Croatia, Belarus, and most recently, in New Orleans, LA. She also has conducted seminars on building strategic networks and has trained organizational and business leaders in assessing their own networks and developing strategies for improvement.

Publishing more than 20 articles and presenting more than 40 conference papers and research programs, Dr. Doerfel offers a wide range of consulting skills to her clients, including:

• Organizational assessment

• Organizational reputation management

She also offers workshops on social networks and networking.

She was awarded funding by the National Science Foundation for her work in New Orleans and by the Department of Homeland Security for her work.

Dr. Doerfel has taught undergraduate, master degree, and doctoral courses at Rutgers University since 2000. Prior to that, she was at UNC-Charlotte. Her PhD is from University of Buffalo, where her research focused on networked forms of organizing and inter-organizational cooperative competition.

Dr. Doerfel has been teaching at Rutgers University since 2000. Prior to that, she taught in the Communication Studies Department at University of North Carolina-Charlotte.
