Karen Shumway
Karen Shumway is known for her work in ethics, social responsibility, and strategic management. She has over 30 years of strategic management experience in several industries, not-for-profit organizations, and higher education. Dr. Shumway has extensive experience in assessing and improving organizational performance excellence, particularly with Baldrige-type standards and criteria. She has presented her research in ethics, social responsibility, and strategic management at numerous regional, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Shumway is deeply committed to excellence in higher education and educational leadership. She has served and continues to serve in leadership roles in educational organizations at the local, national, and international level. She has conducted and participated in numerous site visits for university accreditations. Currently, she is a tenured professor at Angelo State University where she chairs the outcomes assessment and assurance of learning initiatives for the College of Business. She is a Trustee on the Board of Trustees for Robert Morris University Illinois, where she previously served as the first Dean of the School of Business. Dr. Shumway is also a Commissioner on the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Accreditation Commission. She has taught leadership, ethics, social responsibility, and strategic management at the university –level for nearly 20 years. In addition, she has taught numerous workshops and seminars in leadership and ethics for corporate and not-for-profit organizations. She has earned four different excellence in teaching awards from two universities and one international accrediting body.
Dr. Shumway is heavily involved in educational projects in her community aimed at providing safe environments for children. Her work primarily focuses on protecting children and other at-risk individuals from dangers present on the internet and other forms of electronic communication. She conducts workshops several times annually and writes articles for a local newspaper on the subject. She also incorporates the subject matter into her university ethics classes and coordinates with federal law enforcement to present timely and relevant information on local issues.
Dr. Shumway has a Ph.D. in business with a specialization in organizational ethics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She holds an MBA from The University of Chicago with a concentration in marketing and a BA in economics from Northwestern University.
